“This cut could do irreparable damage to our region.”
- Plymouth and Barnstable Sen. Dylan Fernandes on news of a Trump administration halt in funding for repair of the Cape Cod bridges
Uh-oh.
Abusive right-wing ideologues have taken over the federal government and are using their power to punish perceived political enemies.
That’s us.
And while legal action may be stopping some of the bleeding for now, the bloodletting to our federal funding is prelude to a catastrophic holy war if the Republicans keep control of the House.
Back in the good old days of the kinder, gentler first Trump term, Gov. Charlie Baker could call up Vice President Mike Pence and get a rational callback. But while productive bipartisan cooperation between polar opposites still happens within Congress, there is little meaningful interaction anymore between the Massachusetts delegation and the White House.
Dancing cannot occur without two partners, and it’s clear that the only thing Office of Management and Budget Director Russell Vought, Homeland Security Advisor Stephen Miller and the other assorted fruits and nuts driving the bus want to hear from Massachusetts is our death rattle. That’s mutual from our end, and the Markey vs. Moulton steel-cage Senate match is sure to underscore the point with a can-you-top-this contest of anti-Trump invective.
